Knowledge is power—
Did you know that most tax cases can be settled through the appeals division of the IRS, rather than going through the more costly alternative of tax court? We have decades of experience working with the Appeals Division of the IRS, and we can guide you through the process of resolving your case with the best possible outcome.
Additionally, here are a handful of taxpayer rights you should bear in mind:
- Allowed to have your case heard by an independent appeals officer.
- Appeals officer is prohibited from a pre-hearing conference with the revenue officer.
- Only allowed one hearing per tax year in question.
- Appeals officer can make a determination as to the validity of the assessment and to the unreasonable disallowance of ordinary and necessary expenses.
- If the taxpayer is unable to pay the tax due the appeals officer is also charged with the ability to grant an installment agreement or an offer in compromise.
- If the Taxpayer does not agree with the Appeal officer's decision, the taxpayer can appeal to tax court or district court to get a final ruling.
